Blank Canvas Studios (BCS) opened its doors in February of 2009 in Saint Charles, Missouri. As a division of the national non-profit organization Resources for Human Development (RHD) BCS operates as an art-based day program, providing services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Our mission at BCS is to;
EMBRACE Individuals labeled developmentally disabled and provide the tools and materials to create art be celebrated for their unique perspective on life and approach to the arts, as professional Outsider Artists.
CREATE An environment that fosters a range of skill sets that build confidence and personal empowerment.
UNLEASH Authentic, raw and unbridled art and bring their creativity to the diverse St. Louis and St. Charles Art Scene.
Outsider Art encompasses work produced by people with a different perspective on life and approach to the arts. We offer the opportunity to showcase and sell their artwork in our onsite gallery “Off the Wall Outsider Art Gallery,” and in the local community. A team of local Artists work as Direct Support in the studio and strive to integrate our studio into the local art community. Artists that attend Blank Canvas Studios have opportunities to explore a variety of art mediums, including painting, sculpting, graphic design, illustration, printmaking, drawing, dance, theater, film, photography, video and music, jewelry, and fiber arts.
